With the aim of making AI-human conversations more natural or even creating empathy, researchers at Kyoto University -have taught a robot, Erica, to laugh in the right way at the right time. The AI was trained on 80 speed-dating dialogues with the robot, which initially operated by amateur actresses. The algorithm learned to distinguish and mirror social and joke laughter.
